The tenant of the day (TOD) today told me he was waiting for BR1M to pay his rent. He had defaulted on the rent for 3 months already. BR1M stands for Bantuan Rakyat 1 Malaysia, it is a scheme devised by the current prime minister to help poor Malaysians. It’s basically a monetary handout to the citizens totaling round RM650 to RM950 per household.
TOD was renting a single storey shop for RM700 per month and claimed that the business was not that good due to the weak economy. TOD ran a salon and half the shop was an Avon cosmetics distribution center.
