How to buy odd lots using Rakuten Trade and queue for many many days

In a previous blog post I explained how to attend all the AGM (Annual General Meetings) of companies by buying only single lot or small amounts of shares.  As this loophole can be abuse, some companies has put in minimal amount of shares a shareholder need to have in order to qualify for AGM door gifts, so do take not on this.

Buying any amount of stocks not in 1,000 units and 100 units are considered odd lots. However, odd lots are generally quite hard to match because it is not a standard size purchase. Odd lot purchases now can be easily done via Rakuten Trade.

Buying Odd Lots

One additional item that Rakuten Trade allows is the purchase validity. This means that the system will keep on trying to purchase everyday. I think the maximum is 1 month. This actually saves a lot of time and hassle to key in trade everyday.

If I wanted to go all the consumer stocks AGM which give very good door gifts. I just have to use the validity feature. Eg. 1 unit of Nestle, 1 unit of F&N, 1 unit of Carlsberg, 1 unit of Heineken, 1 unit of Frontkn. Do take extra note that due to people doing this (buying 1 unit share) and going to AGM to make noise and just to collect door gifts, some listed companies now require minimum number of shares in order to qualify for door gifts.

Do note that Rakuten accounts are purchased as nominee accounts, so you have to write into Rakuten to nominate you as an attendee to AGM.
