Public Bank QRPay aka PBeQR using DuitNow QRPay aka Malaysia National Unified QRPay System πŸ¦πŸ’΅

Public Bank has opened registration for merchants interested in using DuitNow QRPay. DuitNow QRPay is a standardization the Malaysia Central Bank mandates that all banks to follow the same standard for QRCode, so 1 merchant (hawker) don't need to display all the QRcodes of banks.

Public Bank QRPay is quite similar to Maybank's QRPay, it is a basically scan and pay and supports peer to peer payment. However, the major difference between Public Bank QRPay and Maybank QRPay is Public Bank's QRPay is based on DuitNowQRPay, a national QRPay standard that eventually all banks have to follow. To the average consumer on the street, there will be no difference on this small fact.

Once other banks have implemented DuitNowQRPay, eg RHB, HSBC, customers can use their respective banking app to scan the DuitNow QRPay code and then conduct payment. The merchant/hawker/storekeeper now just need to display 1 single QRcode instead of displaying multiple QRcodes from multiple banks.

The QRPay functionality is only available on Public Bank's new Mobile App called PBEngage2, it is not available on the older PBEngage app.

Just like any QRPay functionality, users can just tap the QRPay button then do a fingerprint verification and scan the merchange QRcode and payment can be done without inputting password. This makes it much faster to pay for things without fumbling too much on the phone.

At the moment, Public Bank QRPay is not widely used yet as it seems like the bank is working on merchant feedback and fine tuning the app. Transaction cost have been waived at the moment but is expected to be resumed when more people start using this method of payment.

Updates 20200821
I've tested using Maybank QRPay to scan on the Public bank QRPay code and it works flawlessly. This is because Maybank has also adopted the DuitNow QRPay standard.

I had to educate myself also that apparently now many banking app's QRPay can be used to pay for DuitNowQR/PB QRPay as it is a national standard now. Eventually all banks in Malaysia will be able to support it.
