A tale of 2 Amanah Saham ASNB Funds - ASN Equity 5 and ASN Sara 2 returns

Some people are not aware that Amanah Saham is actually a Mutual Fund company that sells variable rate funds. Variable rate funds are just like normal unit trusts/mutual funds, the value of the fund units moves up and down, Unlike the fixed rate funds that people normally know about Amanah Saham, the variable rate funds are quite easy to purchase from the online portal MyASNB.

The latest 2 variable rate funds Amanah Saham Equity version 5 and Amanah Saham National Sara 2 just did fund distribution and there is quite some disparity between the 2 funds. Amanah Saham Equity version 5 is an equity fund that is heavy on equity had a -3.89 returns while the Amanah Saham Sara 2 which is a balanced fund has a +2.79 return. A -3.89 means it would have been better deployed the funds into bank fixed deposits as there is a net loss of investment. The +2.79 returns on the Amanah Saham Sara 2 fund is also nothing to shout about, the losses were cushioned by the bonds and fixed deposits inside the fund and as such it didn't manage to outperform bank fixed deposit of +3%.

Amanah Saham Sara 2 returns

IIt is quite obvious it is better to buy fixed rate funds from Amanah Saham as their returns in past years have been above the 5% mark. The variable rate funds performs just like any other unit trust/mutual funds sold by fund management companies. As with everything in life, anything worth fighting for is going to have some level of difficulty, the fixed rate funds like Amanah Saham Wawasan 2020 and Amanah Saham Malaysia are extremely difficult to purchase due being fully subscribed all the time. You are basically buying from another person who is selling the units, most likely the other person is selling because he needs the money.

I noticed however, the best time to purchase the fixed rate funds from Amanah Saham is during lunch time, best during the 1PM-2PM time where people are going to Amanah Saham branches to redeem/sell the units they hold
