The Makoever Guys Home Renovation Talk at PJ MidTown

Makeover Guys is currently the hottest one stop interior design and renovation company right now. These recent years it had got a lot of attention and traction on social media. Their business is also aided by the fact that the property oversupply and slump has cause more landlords to move into Airbnb or improve their unit's rental attractiveness by giving their units good interior design. Having a fully furnished unit is no longer good enough, good and warm interiors are a must now given the oversupply of rental units in Klang Valley.

PJ Midtown, which is a new property landmark in Petaling Jaya invited the Makeover Guy team to give a talk at their sales gallery. The place was packed when I arrived and most of the people were standing. The talk was given by Jason Lu, Makeover Guys head of strategy. The content of talk was title "Getting the most value when furnishing your home". The talk focuses on simple tips on what and what not to do when furnishing your property unit.

I arrived a bit late into the talk, just when Jason was talking about the 3 points which property owners should not do when selecting curtains. The 3 points raised were No Florals, No Miniskirt and No Glossy. Basically it means to avoid curtains that have floral patterns, with funky shiny and silky gloss material and short curtains that are not ceiling to floor height.

The other point Jason pointed out that property owners tend to neglect or put lesser importance is the dining room and bedroom furnishings. The furnishings and settings are important as it gives a good feel and impression to tenants who visit for viewing.

Jason mention that funky lightings (pendant lights) do not need to be put around the whole property unit, only focus on the dining room and bedroom will do.

Somewhere along the talk Jason also mention about having a good feature wall with good texture paint and wallpaper.

Jason then mentioned about the Makeover Guy's approach to design by using only 3 color palette color selection. Designing a room should not use too many colors instead should use only 3 colors at the maximum with 60/30/10 % rule, where the primary color is used 60% of the time , secondary color 30% in the room and final 10% for the 3rd color.

I managed to ask Jason how the Makeover Guys do their funky stripes and geometrical colored walls and he generously shared that the signature effect by the Makeover guys were done by combining different wallpapers and put on the wall. This is a contrast to traditional wallpaper installation where a single piece of wallpaper is slapped on to the wall.

I couldn't help myself to take a picture of the nice pour paint canvas hung at the property gallery. It looked simple but yet sophisticated enough to be put out as a masterpiece.
