iTalki language learning and tutoring App - learn a foreign language online with native speakers internationally -Invite code- 6Hecbb?hl

Knowing a new language is like having another soul

Language learning seems to have been democratized. iTalki is a website/app enables anyway to be learn languages with anyone who can teach languages worldwide. iTalki is based on Hong Kong but their users comes from everywhere globally.

You can sign up as either a student to learn a language or a tutor/instructor to teach. The tutor/instructor is free to set his rates while iTalki takes a 15% commission cut from each lessons.

In app you can search for teachers and tutors and their rates and schedules are all displayed.

Classes can be conducted via the iTalki app itself but Microsoft Skype is still the preferred method of communication.

The tutor's ages also have very wide range.

I've signed up for Vietnamese lessons and can vouch the system and service is really good. You basically select a teacher, then sign up for his/her classes and set the schedule. On the day of schedule just add the teacher's skype id and you do the lessons, upon completion of the lessons, you will need to verify the class was completed at the italki app/website. Lessons are conducted over Google slides for the majority of tutors.

The pros and cons between hiring a private tutor and using Italki is as follows :

Pros
- Some tutors fees can be quite affordable compared to private tuition fees
- Flexible learning hours (as long as your schedule matches the instructor's time)

Cons
- Less personal, some tutors will just clock out at exactly the time purchased
- Cannot reschedule a class less than 24 hours

My personal opinion is iTalki can be used to complement existing private language tuition as most iTalki tutors are native speakers living in the actual country itself.

Initially when starting out using iTalki to choose the tutor, it can be really overwhelming at first as for some languages there would be almost 30 over tutors around, making it hard to choose. My own opinion is the tutor with high number of classes and students do not necessary mean that they are good, it could be a combination of their education level, certification level and outside appearance. Typically those tutors who have higher class fees speak quite fluent english and are professionals in their profession, however I beg to digress on this as I've tested tutors with lower fees and found some of them to be more passionate in teaching than some tutors with higher fees.

Updates 20200218
I tested changing existing tutor to another tutor just to get a feel the different methods different tutors teach. Some is face to face while others is face to camera.
