Capbay has just launched a new product called Capbay Assure; It's a type of notes which have a guarantee on its repayments. Capbay is one of the many licensed peer to peer crowd lending companies in Malaysia. How Capbay Assure works is Capbay will appoint a Guarantee Company to come in and purchase the notes in the event note defaults.
The interest rate for this product (Capbay Assure) is not very high, estimated to be around 4.0 – 6.0%.This is because lenders/investors are effectively trading some potential upside for guaranteed returns. I believe in reality most of the notes would likely be in the 4-5% range.
According to Capbay, notes with CapBay Assure will have an indicator. In the past, I usually go for the notes with lower interest rates (<8%) as those notes indicate a more financially stable borrower, these notes usually have a bell with a note indicator there. Not sure how CapBay Assure notes will look like but for sure it will be labeled as so.
CapBay Assure would be the types of notes I will be subscribing from now (2nd H 2021) on as my main goal is to get higher than bank fixed deposit returns (>3%) at safer risk levels. Investors who use Capbay auto invest feature are also exposed to CapBay Assure notes.
Do note if that these notes are not 100% risk free. These notes are exposed to systemic defaults (mass defaults) if economy turns really south. The guarantee company maintains a pool of reserve funds to bail out and buy the defaulted notes. The pool of reserve funds is around 8% relative to the notes. Once the reserve funds is depleted, Capbay will stop issuing out Capbay Assure notes until the pool is replenished.
