Public Bank PBJourney Kids Mobile App 📲

Public Bank has a launched mobile app for kids called PB Journey.

The goal of the app seems to be instilling kids with a saving mindset and also instill brand equity (brand awareness). I recalled a long time ago in the 80s banks used have those programs for kids giving out free coin boxes (aka piggy bank), badminton racquet with bank logos. I believe this is the digital version of those programs. To get the kids on board with the brand and then when they reach adulthood they will be familiar with the brand.

The PB Journey app features includes the following functions - pocket money, goal, learning, and integrating the Public Bank star achiever programmed into the app.

Goals

Like most fintech savings apps, create a goal and save towards that goal. The money comes from fund transfers from parents, pocket money from tasks.

Tasks

The kid creates a task (eg clean my room, wash toilet etc) and then assigns a reward amount. Once task is completed, parents will approve the pockey money.

Star Achiever Program

An existing program by Public Bank that aims to reward children who excel in their studies. At the moment, Public Bank Star Achiever Program is done via web, however PBJourney will have Public Bank Star Achiever Program integrated inside.

I have yet to test the app yet but from what I see from the description in Google Play store, children create tasks and earn pocket money from their parents once they have completed a task.

The app is very focus as kids with Public Bank WISE savings account can use it. WISE is the kids/teen savings account of Public Bank. It's open to all children below 18 years old. This savings account is protected by PIDM (Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia).
