Loan Scams not the Ah Long loan shark scam

There a type of scam called the loan scam where scammers pose as actual big bank employees (eg Maybank, CIMB, Public Bank, RHB etc) to scam desperate people who need personal loans. The scammers sometimes advertise their services via social media ads (eg Facebook ads).

The modus operandi of the scammers is to introduce themselves as bank employee and then they will send out the fake name card bearing the bank's logo to un-suspecting victims. The channel of initial communication starts from Whatsapp, Telegram, Facebook Messenger or even SMS.

Once the victim has shown interest in taking up the loan, the scammer will then ask the victim to pay some sort of fee ( processing fee, deposit fee, goodwill fee) in order to apply for the loan. Once payment is made and that is where the rugpull happens and the scammer will flee.  Sometimes, the scammer will claim that additional money is required for CTOS and then CCRIS checking fees as the victim's salary does not qualify for the loan but in actual fake this is a lie by the scammers.

These victims are usually already very desperate for money and are ineligible for qualifying for a loan. This loan scam is so prevalent that Bank Negara has come out with a warning to the public on this.
