Mahkamah no free to call one, all via registered mail
Don't panic if out of the blue some phone robot calls and claims to be from the sessions court (Mahkamah) and mentions that you have a pending court attendance/case/subpeona pending. Sometimes the caller would claim to be from SPRM aka Malaysia Anti Corruption Agency also. At the moment, the scammers would claim specifically to be from Mahkamah Balik Pulau (Penang) or Melaka which illustrates that this is a scam syndicate whereby the scammers follow a highly optimized call transcript when calling the victims. The usual hook is the caller would say that the victim's company hasn't paid tax for 1-2 years and action is being taken against the company. Victims who get baited will check and see that there is really a Mahkamah Balik Pulau and Melaka and then will be drawn in further into the scam.
Interestingly Mahkamah Negeri Pulau Pinang (Balik Pulau) is also aware of the scam and have pinned information about the scam on their official website.
Most of these scam call numbers start with 011, 015 and 018 which are numbers originate from virtual mobile operators (operators that buy capacity from bigger companies like Maxis, Celcom).
If the case is so critical and urgent, the police would be already knocking on your door to haul you to court already, no need to waste time calling.
This scam is not new and has been reported in the media.
Even Jabatan Kehakiman has issued warning on the scam calls.
