Crushed to death while changing engine oil DIY - Always use a car stand after jacking up cars !!

Always use a car stand after jacking up cars

I'm actually a DIY enthusiast and I sometimes do my own car fixes. There's this news an e-hailing driver staying in Putrajaya who was doing DIY changing of his car brake pads and engine oil got crushed to death when the car fell on him.

I'm guessing the car jack gave up and let go. Sometimes the car jacks have inferior quality especially those bought from Lazada/Shopee. For all car repairs, it is very very important to have car repair stand placed under the car after the car is jacked up. I've seen mechanics even at car workshops who don't practice putting car repair stands after jacking up the car.

For most people, it is best to just send the car to the nearby mechanic to do as mechanic labor costs are still quite reasonable in Malaysia. My regular mechanic only charges me RM30 to change engine oil (labor) and brake pads separately. I just have to bring my own engine oil and oil filter.

This tragic incident highlights the importance of taking proper safety precautions when performing DIY car repairs. It's crucial to have the right tools and equipment, as well as knowledge and experience in doing the task. It's not advisable to attempt complicated car repairs or modifications without proper training and experience.

While DIY car repairs can save you money, it's always best to consider the potential risks and weigh them against the cost of hiring a professional mechanic. In the case of the e-hailing driver, the cost of the fatal accident far outweighs any savings he may have made from doing the repairs himself.

Alternatively at least also use a spare tyre to support the buttom of the car.
