Malaysia MyKid Identity Card: How to Apply, Benefits, and Key Information for Parents 📇👶

Mykad for Kids 📇

The Malaysia MyKid card is a chip-based identity card issued to children under 12 years old, containing essential personal information and health records. It is aimed at facilitating access to government services and reducing paperwork. Children as young as 1 year old can also apply for their MyKid card. MyKid incorporates a chip that stores essential information about the child, including birth details, health records, and educational information.

Last year the government ran out of the card due to global chip shortage so there was a pause in the issuance in MyKid card. Now they have restocked the cards and is open to public.

To apply for the MyKid card, you only need to bring the child's birth certificate, although the website mentions that verification of at least one parent's identity is required.

The MyKid card can be processed at JPN (Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara) Putrajaya, other JPN or UTC branches. I have only experience doing it at JPN Putrajaya. Visit the 3rd floor, which is one floor above the Bahagian Kad Pengenalan (not 2nd floor).

If you come early before 10AM, there will be not much of a queue. Go to the counter to get the queue number.

I got my child’s card ready in 1 hour, it's very fast and JPN is known as the most efficient government department. No photo and fingerprint is required, as the child’s features will change significantly before they reach age 12. Only the child's mother's name is written at the back of the MyKid card. Making the MyKid card is free of charge.

Obtaining a MyKid card is not compulsory, but it saves the hassle of carrying the birth certificate which can be easily damaged as it is just a piece of paper. It is useful for school-kindergarten, clinic/hospital registration, as well as amusement park age verification.
