A new scam is making the rounds among Grab drivers. Scammers are booking rides and asking Grab riders/drivers to buy items usually drinks, milk, or diapers along with Touch ‘n Go reload pins outside the Grab system. They promise reimbursement plus extra cash, but the real goal is to trick drivers into revealing the reload code.
One driver shared how a passenger scammer, speaking with a foreign accent, asked him to buy a reload pin and drinks, then deliver them to a hospital. The scammer kept calling, demanding a photo of the pin. Sensing danger, the driver refused. He reported the case to Grab, avoiding losses, though other drivers weren’t as lucky.
Another driver received two similar requests: first for milk and a reload pin from Petrol station, then for drinks and a pin from 7 Eleven to KPJ Rawang Specialist Hospital. Both times, the scammer dangled an “extra RM50” as bait. The driver canceled one trip, and the scammer canceled the other after realizing he wasn’t falling for it. The milk purchase and other purchases was a distraction from the pin purchase.
Other variations from Touch 'n Go reload pin is the other reload pins from Roblox, Razer Gold, PUBG, Garena, CelcomDigi, Yes, UMobile.
The pattern is clear:
- Scammers book trips from common spots like petrol stations or 7 Eleven.
- They ask for small items plus a TNG reload pin.
- They pressure drivers to reveal the pin before payment.
- One the pin is revealed, the scammer will go missing and uncontactable
Fellow drivers, be alert
- Never send or reveal a reload pin.
- Don’t trust offers of “extra payment.”
- Report suspicious cases to Grab immediately to block the passenger.
