Dropped by a hardware hypermarket and saw these materials. It's called Vinyl flooring boards. Basically it's poor man's version of the natural hard wood flooring with some benefits. Feel wise, it kind of feels like hard industrial rubber. Looks wise, not exactly like hard wood flooring but close enough to fool the untrained eye.
1 box of 15 pieces of it costs ~ RM 130. I checked with the sales staff on the amount of boxes I needed to buy in order to furnish a simple 450 sq ft studio unit and his reply was around 13 boxes. This works out to around RM 1690, this does not include the glue; the special purpose glue required to stick these boards costs around RM 100 for a big tub.
Just like natural wood flooring, these boards are still prone to scratches but at least replacing it would be kinder to the wallet. I will be considering using this sort of material if I got a space with just cement flooring. Feels like a waste to use it to cover up a tiled up studio unit.
