All that glitters is not gold
A famous Youtube influencer from Thailand is currently wanted by police allegedly misappropriating client's money via Forex investments. The amount involved goes as high as USD55 million. Based on newspaper reports around 100 of her 6,000 odd depositors have filed police report against her. She allegedly told informed investors that her investments can return 5% in 3 months and 31% in 6 months.
Natthamon Khongchak (nickname Nutty) has a few YouTube channels and one of it is related to trading forex (@Tradernutty). She also has a channel where she posts her sexy dance moves which has garnered 900k subscribers.
Nutty has a fluent command of Bahasa Malaysia language and as such some people have speculated that she has fled Thailand to neighboring Malaysia. She used to post videos on learning the Thai language in Bahasa Malaysia language.
The take away lessons from this event:
1. Do not expect scantily clad Instagram influencers to teach you about finance and making money.
2. Forex trading is over hyped, I have never seen a really successful forex trader.
3. Outsourcing your hard-earned money to another individual to manage to super risky.
4. Promised returns are never (read again) actual returns.
Update 2024
The authorities finally caught Nutty. She was extradited from Indonesia where she was hiding.
