J&T Express is a delivery company which started from Indonesia (PT Global Jet Express) and expanded to Malaysia, a lot of ecommerce products purchased from Shopee and Lazada use J&T Express for delivery.
There's a bunch of scammers calling up people claiming to be J&T customer support from J&T Kuala Lumpur HQ. They will 1st ask the victim for IC number and for a non existing package number. The victim will say that they are not aware of any package, the scammers then will inform the victims that there is an unclaimed package under the victim's name and the package is suspected to have some issue and claims to connect the victim to the police. The call is then purportedly transferred to a fake policeman who will say that the victim's package is involved in drug distribution or money laundering to scare the victim. The fake police then manages to convince the victim to transfer money to a mule account to bury the case. To make the calls more convincing, the scammer will ask which language the victim is more comfortable to speak in and then will transfer the call to another scammer who is fluent in that language/dialect, making it seem like there are various business departments working at the background.
The team at J&T is aware of this scam and have put up notices on their website to warn the public about the scam. The public are to report to J&T Express at 1300-80-9000, 03-92129660 or via live chat at https://www.jtexpress.my/ if they come across any scam or suspicious calls
