KKD (Kementerian Kommunikasi dan Digital) Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Impersonator Scam

Earlier today, I received a call from the number 018-6553406. The person on the other end introduced himself with a Malay name (Fadzil) but had traces of an Indonesian accent. According to the caller, he claimed he was from the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia, also known as Kementerian Komunikasi and Digital (KKD), and informed me that my phone number was suspected to be involved in scams and was going to be blacklisted by the ministry and to be pass on to the relevant authorities.

However, when I asked the caller to confirm my name, he was unable to do so, which raised suspicions that this was a fraudulent call. Upon conducting research online, I discovered that there is indeed a scam going on where impostors use the reputable name of KKD to deceive unsuspected persons.

The (actual) Ministry of Communications in Malaysia oversees the development, coordination, and implementation of policies and programs related to communication, information, and multimedia sectors. It promotes the development of industries and ensures safety and security while facilitating the growth of the digital economy and promoting digital literacy among Malaysians.
