Unveiling the COD Scam Tactics: Protect Yourself from Empty Package Frauds - Type 1

This is the normal hit and run COD (Cash on Delivery) scam going on. The MO (modus operandi) is the seller obtains list of buyer addresses and sends out empty or nonexistent item  in packages to buyers randomly via COD.

As per standard package delivery practices of COD (DHL, Ninjavan, UPS), buyers are not allowed to open packages without paying 1st. As such, this helps make the scam harder to be realized.

Once the item arrives the the buyer's house, the buyer is most likely not at home; in the house are mostly their parents, their parents will then just pay COD of the item without checking with their children if the package was expected. The package COD amount is normally quite high in RM100-RM500 to offset the risk of being rejected and offset the shipping costs.
