Scammers impersonating Maybank Debit Credit card customer service

This is a sample SMS from scammers pretending to be from Maybank.  It looks like a genuine message from Maybank telling people that their card has been charged and used by unauthorized parties.

Once the victim calls up the number to enquire further, the scammers will then use various different methods to extract money from the victim.

Historically, Malaysians encountered phishing messages that mimicked prominent international banks such as CitiBank and HSBC. Subsequently, there was a shift towards imitating Singaporean banks like UOB and OCBC. In the present scenario, the threat has evolved, with phishing attempts now emulating local banking institutions like Maybank and Public Bank. It's getting harder and harder to differentiate valid SMS messages now as most Malaysians will have accounts with Maybank and Public Bank.
