Investing in everyday value
iCapital.biz is a closed end investment fund based in Malaysia. The company's main goal is to invest in a portfolio of stocks on the Malaysian stock exchange to generate long term returns using value investing methodology for its shareholders. A closed ended fund is an investment fund that raises a fixed amount of capital through an initial offering and then trades its shares on a stock exchange, with the total number of shares remaining constant.
The iCapital.biz 2025 Annual General Meeting was held on a recent date at the KLCC Convention Center. Shareholders who attended the meeting received an iCapital tote swag bag as a doorgift. This AGM was iCapital's 21th AGM making it a big milestone for the company.
At the AGM were iCapital.biz's parent company Capital Dynamics booth. While iCapital.biz Berhad is its flagship closed end fund, the iCapital group also manages other investment vehicles. A key offering is the iCapital Global Fund, which provides investors with access to international markets, particularly focusing on equities in the United States and Hong Kong. This fund allows Malaysian investors to diversify their portfolios beyond local securities. Additionally, the group offers educational resources and publishes the iCapital newsletter, which provides market commentary and investment ideas, extending its services beyond direct fund management.
Mr Tan Teng Boo is the founder and managing director of iCapital.biz Berhad. He is a well known figure in Malaysian finance, recognized for his value investing approach. Through iCapital, he directly manages the fund's portfolio, applying his investment philosophy to select stocks for long term growth. His leadership and decisions are a central focus for shareholders at events like the Annual General Meeting. Tan Teng Boo, founder of Capital Dynamics, is often called Malaysia’s Warren Buffett for his disciplined, value based investing. Like Buffett, he focuses on long term fundamentals, independent thinking, and rational decision making for his investment decisions.
In the AGM, Mr. Tan Teng Boo took the stage to explain iCapital Biz's stock portfolio. As usual, the portfolio consists of mid sized Bursa Malaysia companies and carefully selected small cap stocks.
As with most AGMs, senior attendees far outnumbered younger or Gen Z participants, many of whom are also loyal supporters of the iCapital fan club. The iCapital Fan Club is the first corporate fan club for a listed company in the Asia Pacific region. Members participate in company visits, talks, and events, providing opportunities to share ideas, discuss market trends, and build a like minded community (value investing).
A buffet lunch was served after the AGM, the first ever lunch buffet in addition to the usual breakfast buffet. Previous years AGM, only lunch packs were provided. However, I noticed that the food was insufficient, mainly because some attendees packed food into containers/tupperware despite this not being allowed. People at the back of the queue probably didn't get enough to eat. Mr Tan Teng Boo mentioned that the entire event cost around RM600,000 to host.
Note: There is a community message. Many fraudsters and scammers are setting up fake WhatsApp groups, Telegram groups, and Facebook groups using the iCapital Dynamics name. Do be careful who you are engaging with.
